Reviews of Cetus Dive Center
Unsafe, unprofessional dive shop: I brought my gear for a simple cleaning. On my very next dive, I had a serious throat reaction—my throat started closing underwater due to chemical residue left on the equipment. When I confronted them, they denied everything. One staff member claimed they “only use water.” Another (on a different visit) said it was impossible because they use “premium American products.” They can’t even keep their lies straight—much less take accountability. I also paid for a “dive computer use” course. What I got was a painfully long PDF—no real instruction, no hands-on training. Zero interaction. Then, I brought in my dive computer to replace the strap. We tested it in the pool that same day—it worked fine. Weeks later, they returned it fully unprogrammed. They blamed it on the battery (I replaced it—still broken). Their excuse? “It’s old.” Classic—break your gear, then try to sell you a new one. Reckless dive leadership—dangerous: Alejandro, their dive master, should not be allowed to certify divers. Most of his students had extremely poor skills, and he did nothing to help them. Worse, he took an underqualified diver—someone who clearly wasn’t ready for advanced dives—on a Galápagos trip. That diver shot to the surface like a balloon three different times, out of air, risking his life and everyone else's. Alejandro, who had personally certified him and was supposed to supervise him, couldn’t be bothered. He was too busy enjoying his own dives. It was terrifying to watch. Their trips? Equally bad: Chaotic logistics, rude and arrogant staff, zero accountability. They treat group trips as their personal vacations, and subcontract everything. Bottom line: Avoid CETUS—whether for gear, courses, or dive trips. They’ll gladly take your money, leave you with broken gear, worthless training, and—worst of all—dangerous diving situations.
