ABC Diving - Malta

I did my advanced open water diver course + 6 guided dives with ABC diving over 4 days in November. I am fairly new to diving and was coming as a single diver, so it was important that the dive centre I chose to go with provided me with quality training/know-how, prioritised safety and at the same time, would take me to explore the must-sees of Malta. ABC Diving seamlessly delivered from start to finish and comes highly recommended. Responsiveness: John answered my queries on the course and dive sites over email, each time in less than 24 hours turnaround, which allowed me to plan for my trip in good time. They also did their best in catering to my requests to explore the various wrecks and dive sites in both Malta and Gozo, despite tricky weather conditions at the time of visit, and delivered. They took me to the Um El Faroud for my first wreck dive and I managed to explore two further wrecks - the MV Karwela and X123. We also dived to The Pinnacle in Gozo, which was an amazing dive. Diving: Liz is an excellent dive instructor and guide. She was extremely thorough in her training on the AOWDC and diving briefs, always taking the time to make sure I understand important concepts and the dive plan. She would also give me pointers on my trim and offer suggestions in augmenting my kit/weights to improve my buoyancy. My buoyancy (and accordingly, my confidence and sense of control in diving) improved tremendously learning from her. Liz and Nika were also great at pointing out various marinelife along the way, e.g., octopuses, trumpetfish, scorpionfish, lizardfish, that were hard to spot to the novice's eye. Safety: It was clear that the team prioritises safety for each dive. The planning of each dive was tailored towards weather conditions and safety in entry/exit. On one of the days, we had completed the first dive at Zurrieq Valley and had two more to go. Winds/waves took a turn for the worse which made entry/exit quite dangerous. Instead of risking it, ABC Diving took me to do my next two dives in a different dive site where there was no surge/it was safe and I still managed to experience wreck dives there. Nika would always run buddy checks with me and let me take the lead to help drill in the process. The quality of their equipment was great (and stylish - note the pink fins) as well. Transport: They picked me up from my hotel to the dive centre and onto the dive sites each day. They also offered to make pit stops along the way for quick bites/lunch pick-up. They dropped me off at my hotel after each day of diving, making diving with them a seamless journey. I did not have to worry about transport at all which was fantastic. Fun: Last but certainly not least, the whole ABC Diving team was an incredibly fun bunch to dive with. I had the best time with Liz and Nika - they were great to chat with, always ready to trade exciting stories of their dive adventures or tips and tricks re equipment and set-up on the road. Even though I came as a single diver, I never felt alone. It was never a dull moment with ABC Diving and I'll be sure to use them again on my next visit!

We recently spent a few days in Malta and my daughter and I booked in with ABC at short notice for a couple of dives. It was my first dive in 10+ years and my daughter's first ever diving experience. We were keen to dive together and ABC were kind enough to accommodate this. On the day, ABC were totally prepared, paperwork was done and our equipment laid out and labelled. After fitting our suits, shoes, flippers etc. we headed out with Liz, initially to a shallow site to introduce our daughter to diving and to ease me back into it. Liz was the perfect instructor and covered the basics in an extremely clear and thorough manner. We then enjoyed a thoroughly enjoyable 45 minute dive in beautifully clear water. After some lunch we drove to another site near Sliema. I'd expressed a desire to wreck dive and this accessible and reasonably shallow site was the best option given my daughter's level of experience and the weather conditions on the day. Again, the dive went beautifully and, despite fairly average visibility, we managed to see both the wreck along with a variety of local marine life. ABC were extremely professional and put together a dive package for us at short notice and at a very reasonable price. Liz is a thorough and patient instructor who explains things extremely clearly. Our daughter couldn't have had a better introduction to diving. With our daughter now hoping to complete her PADI, I'm sure we'll be back before too long and ABC will be top of our list for a dive shop.

A fantastic experience! Very professional, friendly and reassuring service. 80 euros with no hidden extras for my first scuba diving experience which included a short online PADI training session before the day, reassuring and clear explanations, all the equipment and excellent teaching and accompaniment. I felt in very safe hands from start to finish. Included in the price was a pick up and drop off service which made things much easier. John and Anna (my instructor) were very friendly and approachable. Highly recommended!

ABC Diving is probably the best dive centre I've come across in 25 years of diving. Even when booking I could tell that they were so organised. Every email came with a timely response and they didn't get impatient with me while I was trying to corral decisions, queries, responses and payments from a group of 7 people. Then when it came to the diving, they were just spot on. Marcus and Liz delivered clear briefings and everything was organised for us. They seemed to remember every detail. For example, they ensured that the one diver in our group with an A-Clamp regulator had a tool to remove the plug on the bottle. Or I mentioned that the bolt-snap had fallen off my primary regulator over-night and I had it in my hand the following morning - no need to ask again. The quality of equipment was incredible. One of the reasons I chose ABC was because they offered Halcyon wings as hire gear. And it was incredibly refreshing to dive with the same gear I use at home so I knew exactly where every D-ring was. They also looked after everything after the dive so we just left our gear in the van and they looked after rinsing it off at night. And if you left your packed box alone for 10 seconds, it seemed to magically find its way into the van. Bottles magically appear beside your gear pre-dive and disappeared back into the van once disconnected from our gear. One of our group had a leg injury and again, the team looked after getting his gear to the entry point and back to the van afterwards and being Malta there were some quite arduous trecks to get to the sites. We were picked up at our hotel every morning and left back every afternoon. On the two days where we were running a little late, they dropped us back before they went back to the dive centre to give us a little more time in our evening. The diving itself was a refreshing change from 5 metre vis and the low temperatures of Ireland. Not quite on a par with the amazing colours of Egypt but we had some really good dives on some interesting wrecks. It was fun to get to enter wrecks safely - particularly for the less experienced members of our group. All-in-all ABC diving organised a fantastic schedule for us and looked after us with complete professionalism.

My husband and I were spending our honeymoon in Malta in February and decided to try scuba diving for the first time. I'm so glad we had our first experience with ABC Diving. What a find! I've just come back from a fabulous week of diving and can't recommend it highly enough! Just to give some context I'm a rescue diver with just over 100 dives, super into wreck diving, and I was keen to take and use my drysuit to get more comfortable in it for UK diving. Firstly, the contact I had prior to booking was second to none. Both John and Marcus responded quickly and thoroughly to every email (of which there were many). I've never had such a good rapport with a dive shop prior to visiting before. I had a lot of questions about different sites and exposure protection, etc. Everything was answered, and they made me feel so comfortable. I even managed to get a few restaurant recommendations from them before we came. They were very prompt with pick up and managed to work around my afternoon plans with my non-diver boyfriend, which was fantastic. They took very good care of my kit for the week and even when I broke one of my own weight pockets they sourced and delivered a replacement (to the dive site I was at) on the island within 2 days! Now on to Liz...what a rockstar! She looked after me all week and I had explained a few skills I would like to perfect...She gave me so much time and attention to guide me and has really helped to improve my confidence and my understanding of the sport as a whole. She is such a fantastic instructor (and interesting person). She must produce wonderful divers with a real infectious passion for the sport. I really can not say enough about this place. I love it, and I will be back as soon as I possibly can! I'll not even look elsewhere!

I had an amazing experience on my Discover Scuba Diving with ABC Diving and would wholeheartedly recommend them. Here’s why: As someone who was just beginning their journey into the world of scuba diving, I found the wealth of information online very daunting. I took the step to contact various dive companies in Malta, giving information about myself (confidence in the water and what I intended to gain) so that I could have a package tailored to my needs. ABC Diving were very swift in responding and also in giving me the reassurance I needed to keep me motivated and as anxious free as possible. Various emails were exchanged and the commitment on my part was made. I had parted with my money and I was ready to dive. Being a non-swimmer, I decided to go with the bespoke individual package. The website states that this is a private tuition session with private transfer service and ‘you choose the date’. This was perfect for me! Johnny - from ABC - picked me up from the hotel. This was reassuring as firstly, I was going solo and secondly, I have a level of anxiety being picked up by random drivers. Johnny was fantastic at giving me information about Malta on the drive. Also being a Brit, it was nice talking to someone who understood the nuances of British sarcasm. The drive was very comfortable. When I arrived at the centre, I was greeted by Marcus (Course Director) who explained the process and kitted me out before we drove to the dive site. Marcus was funny and conversational on the drive. Maltese roads are mad, but both Marcus and Johnny were very safe drivers. Marcus is incredibly knowledgeable and I found his pedagogical style very effective. The actual dive was AMAZING! Marcus was very patient with me as I did take a little bit time to get used to breathing out of my mouth. I kept on breathing out through my nose which then meant my mask kept on flooding. My friends had told me lots about the ‘panic’ they’d experienced diving with other groups. I did not experience any of this, which is a surprise as I am a walking-talking anxiety-bot! At the dive site, there aren’t any changing rooms, although in time this may change. Do wear your swimsuit underneath your clothing. This just helps getting into your wetsuit quickly. Do take extra towels, if you wish to create a more sheltered changing space for afterwards. Once you’re out of your wetsuit, it’s the same process as getting dressed at the beach without changing rooms. Also, do bring an extra jumper. Even if it’s a warm day, you will be trembling the entire journey back as the water completely drains your body. ABC is certainly a 5* diving school. You feel safe and secure throughout the whole process. And you will develop a love for what diving. I cannot wait to come back to complete my Open Water Course!

Additionally, our trip to Gozo with Simon was nothing short of fantastic, further solidifying our positive impression of ABC Diving. Every member of the ABC Diving team we encountered was not only proficient in their roles but also genuinely friendly and helpful. Their recommendations for local eateries allowed us to savor authentic cuisine, steering clear of tourist traps—a preference we greatly appreciate. Should we have the opportunity to return to Malta, there's no doubt that we'll be booking our diving adventures with ABC Diving once again. This is THE dive shop to use in Malta. Very professional staff and excellent communication. 3 of us were coming from the US and John and Marcus were incredibly responsive to emails and questions. All my questions were answered and we had the dives all lined up before we arrived, diving multiple days hitting both Cirkewwa Marine Park (Tugboat Rozi & P29 Patrol Boat) and Um-El-Faroud. The wrecks were awesome and pentrable and Liz and Simon were excellent guides. They dive in small groups so it was only the 3 of us with our guide, and being all advanced open water they tailored the dives to our level. I am confident they would give beginning divers the same personal treatment. Without a doubt we would use ABC again. Dive with them, you won't be disappointed!!!

Having had a bad experience with another diving school a few years ago, I never wanted to get back under the water. But Marcus and the team changed that! Through their constant encouragement, coaching, professionalism and personal touch, I regained my confidence, learnt new skills and learnt to relax, and now I’m not only looking forward to committing to recreational dives every couple of months, but also (hopefully) my Advanced Open Water next year 🤿❤️👍 Would recommend ABC without hesitation to anyone looking to dive for the first time or develop their existing skills. ABC Diving at Malta is a very professional and friendly Diving Center. From signing up and having an initial dialogue about our dives on our vacation at Malta and through the daily preparation and the actual dives we always felt well taken care of and under safe supervision, and in good company. And the dives were really nice. I think we got the most out of our dives including diving at portals, caves, holes and seeing a fine variety of sea life. The last day we were even asked to join a course that was not planned for. We can only give our best recommendations to ABC Diving at Malta!

The best diving school I ever had the pleasure to dive in! I have recommended them to every one of my friends and family and would send strangers there without hesitation. Highly professional, John answers you within minutes. No matter what questions you may have, immediately everything is explained to you extremely helpful. The equipment is more than professional. I have been diving in several dive centers and have never used such professional equipment from such a well equipped dive center. I tried the Wing-BCD on the recommendation of the dive center - that was a completely different diving experience! Every day I was picked up, had fresh coffee put in my hand, had wonderful dives that I like to think back to back at the office. Wrecks, reefs, the open blue, it was a dream dive experience! Special thanks to John who organized everything wonderfully. If you have the chance to dive with Marcus, take it, his reputation as an "underwater god" does not precede him for nothing. And thanks also to Derick, who was never too shy for a joke. You feel absolutely safe with any dive instructor there and in good hands at all times. I was recommended the dive center by my trusted dive instructor and I am very happy to have acted on that recommendation. The highest compliment from a fellow German is "You can't complain there." My expectations were completely exceeded, not only can I not complain, I am already looking forward to the next time to go diving with the ABC team again. Thank you!! From my first email enquiring, through the dive days John and the team were responsive, accommodating, friendly, flexible , safety focused and professional. They provided the best service across many different tourist operators around the world I have used over many years. It was the small things like clear communication on pick up point, coffee on arrival, water and oranges for the days, along with top quality dive gear which the washed at the end of each day, including my personal gear. Special thanks to Simon instructor/guide for fantastic dives and his approach made my experience safe, with no stress. Not only did I complete my advanced underwater certification with ABC Diving, but I also enjoyed 7 dives with ABC on Malta spread over three days. It was, hands down, the best SCUBA experience I have had in the 12+ years that I have been diving. From Australia, to Hawaii, to the Caribbean and Central America, SCUBA diving in Malta offers clear water, amazing wildlife, and incredible wrecks; and ABC Diving was there with me every step of the way to ensure that I had the most fun and safest experience possible. They scheduled each day with room for breaks, food, and provided all transportation. All I had to do was bring a towel and sunscreen. The staff is knowledgeable, passionate, caring, professional, fun, and remained willing to adjust when unexpected challenges arose. I wouldn't dive with any other company in Malta ... they were truly fantastic.

Another amazing diving holiday with ABC Diving. We had such a good experience last year that our dive group returned for another weekend with ABC Diving. Marcus, Liz, and Alex are wonderful instructors and guides. They have now certified myself and my 2 sons in OW and AOW. Absolutely fantastic from start to finish! Great communication when planning my trip. Pick up from my hotel, welcomed with a smile and friendly chat with John en-route to the dive centre. Delicious coffee on arrival whist talking with Marcus about the plans for the 3 days diving I had booked. Followed by 3 days incredible diving around Malta, with complementary Kitkats between dives 😀. My equipment was even cleaned and hung to dry ready for me to collect before my flight home. If you're diving in Malta I couldn't reccomend ABC Diving highly enough! My only regret is that I didn't stay longer 😁 Can't wait to go back next year!

Two wreck dives just near Valletta on a Saturday in March. They were absolutely brilliant. I organised this as a birthday present for my husband and John was great with all the admin - he was organised, responded quickly and in full each time and covered off all necessary detail (eg our own holiday insurance only covering dives to depths of 18m and the dive guide set up to make sure Owen knew where the limit was). On the day, my husband loved it. He had a great dive master as the guide in Liz, was very impressed with the quality of the kit (and volume to ensure stayed warm!) and the briefings and support were all managed incredibly safely. Would definitely dive with ABC diving again. Thanks guys! Great day!
